Schlafly Special Release Christmas Ale

Disclaimer:  I don’t particularly like Christmas Ales, and the bottle, although kept in a refrigerator, was almost a year old upon opening.  This review is mainly for my own entertainment.

Schlafly Special Release Christmas Ale, from The Saint Louis Brewery LLC, St. Louis, MO, pours a beautiful ruby red with a generous head and lots of suspended particles.  Not enough to make the beer cloudy, but I should have poured a bit more carefully.  Schlafly Special Release Christmas Ale smells like walking by a Yankee Candle store.  The bouquet off the head is rusty and burns the nostrils.  It smells like a wet screen door hinge.  What started off with promising looks is quickly turning into a dumper it seems, but I’m too cheap to dump beer this soon.  Upon tasting, I wish I had not. Ick.  It’s a very malty sachet of potpourri with a bitter finish.  I know people that like this style of beer.  Best wishes to you.

not ratable.
