ESB Amber

ESBs are an underrepresented beer style, and should really be more popular than they are.  They have something for everybody:  malty body, hop dryness and visual appeal.  Saugatuck Brewing Company has a really nice one called ESB Amber that’s worth a try.  It’s sweet and malty, but mine was so fizzy it was a challenge to pour.  At first I had a lot of head and a little beer, with overflow imminent.  So after a few minute, with a goodly amount of head remaining I was able to enjoy the orange colored, crystal clear beer with the lacey head.  The bouquet was clean, reserved and well-balanced, with a bready malt being the featured aroma.  ESB Amber is smooth textured with a really rich malty body with hints of roasted nuts and a nice bitterness, the perfect amount, on the back end and at 5.5% ABV you might consider having a second round of this smooth-drinking beauty.
