Big Leaf Maple

Anchor Brewing produces another winner.  Big Leaf Maple is deep red-orange with a nice head that paints the sides of the the glass with lacing.  There’s a good dose of hops in the bouquet of this 6% ABV ale.  Not strong or astringent hoppiness, but prominent and nice.  Big Leaf Maple also has a bit of sweetness that comes through, but more like a brown sugar than a maple note to me, and it comes through after the initial hop tang.  The malt is bready and the hops are bitter, both notable in the exhale.  The lingering bitterness is reminiscent of Liberty Ale, and a nice reminder of how tasty Big Leaf Maple is, and especially appropriate for the lovely fall weather.

  1. Agreed! This is a great beer. I bought some two weeks ago, but can no longer find it around my old haunts. Sniff. Enjoy while you can!
