Honey gold with a lacey head and a thin layer of foamy head, Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point Brewing Company, San Diego, CA is an IPA with a deep malt foundation.  It doesn’t take long, however, to separate the tart hoppiness from the full mouthfeel.  There’s plenty of dryness in the finish, but Sculpin still has enough sweetness to make the salivary glands wash away the bitterness.  Exhale lightly through the nose and you get a touch of the 7% ABV dryness.  Sculpin is a really good IPA, not too dry like some, lighter bodied than some and a better buzz producer than some.  I’ve had it on draft, I’ve had it from a bottle, and both ways Sculpin is great.

    • I look forward to trying more of their brews. I think it’s only recently that Ballast Point has been available near me.
