Tsingtao Beer

The first thing I like about about Tsingtao Beer, a lager brewed by Tsingtao Brewery Co. Ltd., Qingdao, China, is its attractive, colorful label.  Tsingtao (pronounced Ching-dow) is clear light gold with a short-lived white head and an average amount of visible carbonation.  There is a minor skunk/sulphur hop note upon opening the bottle, and a light, sweet whiff follows closely.  It is smooth in the mouth, kind of lively, and mainly malty with a bit of dryness/bitterness following.  There’s even a touch of berry sweetness.Tsingtao is good with food, but it is not particularly a beer you’d pour and sip.  It’s simple, it’s good, but there’s not a lot more to it.  It’s a good offering at your local Chinese restaurant and has a little more personality than the American macro-lager they undoubtedly also offer.
