Bell’s Best Brown Ale

Bell’s Best Brown Ale is appropriately named.  Not only is it Bell’s of Kalamazoo, MI’s best, it is one of THE best.  Medium brown with a haze about it, Bell’s Best Brown Ale has a frothy, lacey, 2-finger head at first, but it collapses into a splotchy film.  The bouquet is full of roasted nuts, earthy yeast and a subdued sweetness.  The sweetness gives way to a slight bitterness in the finish, and there’s almost a Belgian candi sugar sweetness in the exhale, followed by more nut and yeast, and just a hint of alcohol tempers the sweetness.  This is a really good brown ale.  This can be a very boring style, but Bell’s does it up right, as usual.
