Ayinger Oktober Fest-Marzen

Here’s one to wrap up this year’s Oktoberfest, the best fest of the year.  It’s Ayinger Oktober Fest-Marzen.  It is a lovely shade of deep orange-honey with a big dollop of frothy head on top.  Generous carbonation fuels the head for a good long time.  The rusty hop bouquet is generally clean-smelling and not extreme.  There is a good malt presence, being sweet and having a mild, roasted caramel backbone.  The finish is dry and again rusty.  Not a bad beer, but too many reminders of rust throughout make me doubt I’ll revisit this one next year.

I’m going to try a different method of rating this beer, using my 100 point system, but rating various individual qualities to come up with an average for a final rating.  All numbers reflect appropriateness to the style and overall appeal.  It’s subjective but fair.

Color:  95

Head:  90

Carbonation:  90

Bouquet:  60

Body:  66

Flavor:  60

Finish:  60

That’s 80.14, and that seems about right.  What am I missing?
