Flying Horse Royal Lager Beer

Not as exciting or whimsical as its name implies.

The best thing about Indian food is that beer goes with it so well.  Flying Horse Royal Lager Beer is one of the more available ones in Chicago, along with Taj Mahal and Kingfisher.  Flying Horse is pale gold, is virtually devoid of a head after 30 seconds, and displays little carbonation.  It really is an uninspiring start.  The bouquet is very sweet with a little bit of berry sweetness in the back.  The taste mirrors the bouquet with no surprises, and only the faintest hoppy bitterness that shows as the beer warms.  The simplicity of Flying Horse compliments the complex flavors in Indian cuisine.  In short, it’s good for washing down a spicy meal, not much more.  It’s not a beer I would crave, and by itself it is no more than a vehicle for transporting alcohol to the brain.  That ain’t all bad.
