Black Jack Porter

Maybe the label isn't that bad...

OK, I’m not a big fan of the label art, but I am a big fan of what comes out of the bottle.  Black Jack Porter from Left Hand Brewing Company, Longmont, CO, is dark brown but not opaque, the head is just a thin fizz on the top and it doesn’t show a lot of carbonation.  The bouquet is nutty, has a whiff of coffee and a hint of yeast.  There is a touch of bitterness at first, with some mild coffee and burnt grain, but it rounds and mellows nicely into a smooth, medium-bodied brew with just the lightest taste of licorice in the finish.  It’s very good and very drinkable.

  1. My cousin’s son owns Aspen Brewery in Colorado. Any info on their beer selections?

  2. Looks like it is only available at a few establishments in Aspen, but maybe you could get a growler sent to you from cousin Duncan.
