Bell’s Octoberfest

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Time to try a few Octoberfest beers and see if they are as good as I remember from last year.  I’m a fan of the style, so I’ll try anyone’s version.  I found this on tap at The Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL.   Bell’s Octoberfest is pretty good.  Pretty good doesn’t sound like a glowing review, does it?  Well, it’s not in my top 10 Octoberfest beers, but it ain’t bad.  It’s deep gold, displays a goodly amount of carbonation and retains its 1/4″ head for a good long time.  There’s a touch of rust in the bouquet initially, but as it warms there is a good deal of grain and bread which is quite pleasant.  It’s mild-flavored, well-balanced and displays a little bit more rust in the dryish finish.  Again the grain and bread make an appearance in the final exhale and aftertaste.  I am usuall lady gaga over Bell’s beers, so while I don’t want to say I was exactly disappointed, i wished my socks would have been knocked off, or at least below my ankle bones.  68/100 Octoberfest
